C.J. Dennis 2017 Poetry book now available
The 2017 C.J. Dennis Poetry and Story competition winners in all categories are printed in this book which is probably the best ever produced by the C.J. Dennis Society. The standard of poetry and stories are of the highest standard and this book will inspire budding poets to hone their skills. The judges comments have been printed in full. This year the book includes an unpublished poem by Bombardier Gordon Lee at Milne Bay, written in 1942 . The poem is called "Just a Reinforcement" and is written in the style of C.J. Dennis whom Gordon Lee greatly admired. He writes about the RSM from the perspective of a junior soldier who becomes the butt of many jokes and insults before he learns the skills required to fight for his country. Gordon Lee passed away in 1995. The poem was posthumously submiited by his family, but was not eligible for the competition. Nevertheless, we felt it was worthy of inclusion in the book. Even though Dennis had passed away before Gordon Lee went to war, it shows how the master poet influenced his readers.
The book is available for $15 (incl postage and handling.)
